So, after much deliberation and tinkering with different blogging/social media websites, I’ve decided to start my own Blogger. I felt like I needed a blank slate, a white board, a journal, a place to jot down my thoughts in clear, organized, and hopefully coherent text. Currently, I hold an arsenal of different webpages including Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Google+, and an abandoned Xanga. Some people find it redundant to be engaged in so many different personal webpages, but I find it that each website has its own individual perks, all geared towards different audiences.
Facebook, although ubiquitous and continuously pumping out changes to their UI, is a resource I feel like our generation is too deeply invested in to escape. Even though it was created as a tool for people to connect with one another, I guarantee you that a majority of its users spend their time lurking passively through the live-updated newsfeed, creeping through photos and comments their friends post, and rarely ever engaging in the social discussions themselves. I, myself, admit to be being a “lurker” from time to time, but I try to engage with the friends I want to stay in touch with whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Tumblr, I think, is a better website for people who prefer passive engagement. This site is basically a giant scrapbook, where people share mainly images and animated gifs (bloggers aren’t as popular here). While other websites encourage commenting, tumblr gains it momentum through reblogging. If you liked something, laughed at it, thought it was awesome, or felt like you related to it, tumblr makes it super easy to reblog it onto your page, AND it attributes and links the content back to the user who originally posted it. It’s truly amazing how quickly images travel through the tumblr grapevine, sometimes even all the way onto Facebook.
Although I could go on and write about Twitter and Google+.. I’m going to skip it. One, because I’m tired, and by the . Two, because I realize I’m starting to sounding like I’m advertising. And three, because this is my first post and I think I want to avoid overwhelming my readers (if I can gather any!)
Until next time! Toodles
